funkymonkey627 | What can I invest in with $1,000? |
I'm 17 right now and will be turning 18 in a few months. I have about $800 in my ING account earning 4.5% interest right now and I was thinking about taking the next step when I turn 18 and investing. Does anyone have any suggestions on what to invest in for such a young person and with a limited amount of money? |

Invest on some long term stocks, it's not very expensive. Just remember not to trade alot because that will cost you. |

All of the answers so far are the usual, and they will get you no where. I am an investor and a business owner of 3 successful businesses. There are a few modes that you can use your $1000 for that will get you much higher returns than 4.5%. And the most important thing for you to do is learn how to find them and use them to your advantage. If you do then you could easily retire before 30. And i do mean easily. if you want more info email me at education@ze-rio.com |

Safest thing for ya to do is to keep it there @ ING for now. Go get a college degree (preferably in business), and after you get some workplace exp, you'll know what to do. Don't trust no1's advice, if you've got no idea who they are (this is often the case on-line), & therefore no idea what their qualifications are to give such advice.
As for me, I do hold a BBA, MBA, & do my own investing not taking advice from no1. |

At the present time, I suggest that you keep your money with ING. 4.5% is pretty good these days, and you need some safety cash. It doesn't make sense for you to invest in stocks. It would be best for you to keep saving right now. If you feel you must get in, check out Vanguard.com. Excellent company to begin investing. I would suggest a Balanced index mutual fund to start, because the stock/bond balance is safer and less risky. You don't want to be playing around with your life savings. Most mutual funds have a $1,000 minimum balance to open an account. Try to add to it each month. |
