Half and half if you can afford to.
Take some of it and pay off a card with the highest apr then keep the rest for use instead of having to use the card if an emergency arises.

I always think you should pay down debt. But everyone's situation is different. How secure are you in your job? How much debt do you have? I usually ask myself "if I lose my job tomorrow, will I make it?"
Pay down debt, but also have about 3 months worth of cash easily accessible in a short term CD or account. The market is not a place to be putting your money in now unless you really know what you are doing, and it looks like no one does.

Paying the cards off makes more financial sense.

Pay off your credit cards. The interest is working against you and is exacerbating your debt.

Or, you could split it, and invest half and then use the other half to pay off debt.
