Depends on where you live. 40K would be plenty in some areas where as others you would barely be getting by. best formula is what works for you.
add up all your expenses including spending (I mean add everything) and also add a generous amount that would be put into savings and dont' forget retirement.
When that is done see how much money you need to bring home (after taxes) to cover all this. If you could bank a min of $500 to $1000 a month into savings you would be in good shape. use paycheckcity.com to calculate your pay. don't forget to choose your state for tax purposes and to subract any expenses that come out of your check like health insurance. |

35-60 grand a year through a houshold should be good.
But idk.
im 13.
i think it depends on How many kids you have in your house
how high your bills are
how many times you eat out
Can you afford your medical plan
Do you have life insurance.
Too many Variables. |

I'm 26 and I make about $56,000/year with no family to support. It sounds like a lot to someone in high school or college but really it's not that much. I'm not living a life of luxury. I don't understand how people can raise kids on such a measly salary. |

Well, I personally think anything above 75k a year is good money. This is based on my cost of living (ie. location and my spending habbits). Someone in California will have a different answer based on those factors. Hope this helps. |

It is a moving target.
1960 about $25,000
1970 about $35,000
1980 about $50,000
1990 about $85,000
2000 about $120,000
2007 about $150,000 (there were Secretaries making more than $200,000 a year at some of the NY financial companies even if they did not f**k the boss)
2009 about $50,000 if you are lucky enough to have a job |

These days pre-tax income needs to be around 100,000 per year to be considered a 'good amount of money'. That is my humble opinion for what it is worth. |

I'm making 30K a year and living in Boston. I don't have a life of luxury, but I'm not scraping the bottom of the barrel here. I live with 3 other people with a rent of $600 a month. It all depends on your needs though - what do YOU think is a good amount to make per year? |

A one person income, I think about 60,000 would be pretty good.
That's all my parents make combined, about.
So if I'm making that much on my own when I'm out of college, I'll be happy =] It's enough to live comfortably. Not rich but enough money to have luxuries and a decent home. |

Enough for your needs, with some to spare for savings.
If your household income is over $50K, you are making more than the median US household. Over $80K, you're making more than 75% of US households.
On the other hand, an American having the average income of the bottom US decile -- the lowest 10% -- is better-off than 2/3 of the world population.
How much do you need, and what standard of comparison do you want to use? It's up to you. |

I'm a 30 year auto worker and according to most American's you are not allowed to make a good amount of money. Now that the auto bill failed I believe about $10,000 a year is all anyone will be making.THANKS AMERICA |
