If the fed starts cutting rates next year- Financials such as banks will do well, since they borrow at short term rates linked to the Fed funds rate. These stocks have already started to perform in anticipation of the yield curve steepening. Energy and Commodity stocks may underperform if the global economy continues to slow and central banks all over the world continue to hike rates. I would probably look at some defensive type stocks that can perform in any economy. Look for those that have strong fundamentals but haven't received much attention. Remember, red hot industries and concept stocks run out of new buyers as the stock price is increasing. SInce so many have bought in, eventually the stocks will run out of new buyers to come in and cause the price to keep increasing. In the same breath, there are many in the stocks that have made profits, thus creating a huge number or potential sellers. The KEY - Find industries - not what you think will be the next thing, but the potential candidates that investors in whole will think is the next thing and beat them to it. Online advertising will be a booming industry for years to come, the key is to find stocks that can take advantage. Avoid the ones that the market already knows about like Google. Its pretty expensive, and they have to do some serious growing to justify the price. Apple is setting its self up to function as the center piece of home media. Also, they sell tons of pcs with the new windows capabilty. That stock has been trading according to ipod sales, so if ipod sales dip and the stock sells off, it could be an opportunity because I believe Apple has so much going forward that iPod sales won;t be the only profit generator. Water is attractive, Catepillar is attractive, AIG is attractive - All on the basis of globalization. They are positioned well in emerging economies. That will be the source of growth going forward. India, China, Eastern Europe - tourism plays - if the US dollar weakens against the Euro, western EU coutries will be much more expensive to travel relative to the eastern EU countries that have seem a boom in their economies and Tourtism industries

For the next 20 years the largest segment of our poulation will start to turn 60 . what do they need? health care, anti aging products and procedures, housing ,and they are active. not like retirees of long ago. So invest in .1) realestate , 2) health care, 3) any product aimed at keeping you young and healthy

WATER.

Seriously. Invest in water companies. Fresh water is a precious resource that everyone needs and as a result of global warming it will become more and more scarce. Desalination will become more popular as a result and that will make drinkable water more expensive to produce so big profits look certain for the next 10,20,30....years.

within the next few years, change in power between the US and Western will bring about great investment in properties, black gold(crude-oil), health(not gym)but food increase..

telecomms as well

I honestly think the next "dotcom" kind of boom in investments will be private space exploration. Maybe not in 2007, but soon.
