Does it make sense to sell it while it is very low then buy the same stock again to own more shares? Does anyone see a future in just holding the existing shares and hope it goes up in the future?...

No one really knows, but since there are so many variables in this dreadfull situation, wait it out until the stock seems to settle wherever it does. Remember this disaster will go on for years, so there is no rush to get into the stock. BP has to cap the spill, clean up the Gulf, reimburse the fishing industry whatever they can prove they will have lost, reimburse tourism along several states, and possibly other countries, and hope they can prove there was no ciminal intent involved. They may also have to sell assets to cover their losses, and face a decision by the U.S. to get out of the region. They could end up a smaller company when all is said and done.
Too many possible negative scenarios to consider buying into it yet.

Have you ever heard the saying that buying a declining stock is like trying to catch a falling knife? I'd rather see you make a donation to your favorite charity instead of buying BP.
This was a short call all the way back at around $52. It showed a bit of strength a few days ago and as you can see it failed. The downward trend has not reversed, the general stock market trend has not reversed and this is not a buy. Frankly, it's not a time to buy anything right now.
Outside of the general market downturn, BP's price is in an utterly complete downward trend with no sign of upward movement and because of the calamity they're facing, I doubt very much that it will shift upward for a very long time.
