What does bear & bulls in the stock market signify?
In the stock market I know that there exists the terms bulls & bears but I 'm unsure as to what do they actually signify.

investors are very optimist during the bull markets. and because they are so much confident about the market, they are willing to pay more for the same stock valuation. vice versa for bears market.

these are names given to trends existing in a stock market over a period of time.

a bullish trend means when the sentiment in the market is positive and most investors are buying and the stock market index is going up.

a bearish trend means that the over all sentiment in the market is negative and most investors are selling and the index is going down.

I don't know the origins of the sayings, but a bear market is one with very little growth. While a bull market is when the market is growing rapidly.

The terms indicate the type of sentiments displayed by two opposing groups of participants in the operations. Those holding positive views about the stock/market start buying in the hope that prices will go up and push them up , and those holding opposing views do exactly the opposite, and the prices do come down. If you logged on to some business channels and watched them regularly for some time, understanding will be easy and facilitated.

remember this
the bull horn always pointed up = market up

the bear always face down looking for food = market down

bull run means the market is charging forward with full momentum. In stock market, the stock prices are up and the trading volume is high.

bear run mean the market is turning down and moving backwards

Hey I know that 6 people have already answered this question, BUT what difference here I make is: -

1. Darling has not asked about the Bear Market OR Bull Market :) and what simply here he asks is the terms BULLS and BEARS.

2. Darling let me tell you that a person who thinks that the market will go DOWN very shortly and sells in the market short and squares off his trade by buying the same stocks in which he sold, so as to make a quick buck is a BEAR.

3. A person who thinks that the market will go UP and buys regularly in the market for a longer period and only sells when the prices reaches very high is a BULL

Bye for Now, Happy Surfing and Investing :)

Bulls are optimists.Bears are people who are skeptical of all situations. At present the Indian market trend has turned bearish because of fears that the slowdown in American economy might spill over to India as well.

Bear means a down market, stock prices go south. A bull market is when prices tend to rise. When someone says they are bullish on stocks, they think prices will rise.
