What does the term "Bull" mean in stock trading?
I hear it all the time but what does it mean?

Philly DiIsso
Basically BULL means UP.

A bull market is when the market goes up.

A bull is a trader or investor who believes the market will go up.

If you are bullish on a stock, you believe its prospects are good, its price will increase. To be bearish is the opposite.

One can also be bullish on a sector (e.g., defense stocks) or the market as a whole.

Bulls are those whose outlook is bullish.

pgreen
Usually, a bull buys to a bear.
A bull thinks that prices will go up,
a bear that they will go down.
and an ostrich doesn't take side
Strange animals...

optimist.

The answer is 42.
Bull means bullish, or positive, the stock or stock market is going up or trending up.

Bear is the opposite, also bearish, or negative, the stock or stock market is going down or trending down.

kearneyconsulting
Bull = up. Bear = down.

A stock market term which signifies that the prices of stocks and shares are on a rising trend, due to buying demand. A ‘bull’ buys shares hoping that the price will rise, so that they can be sold later at a profit. Since the early 18th-c the terms ‘bull’ and ‘bear’ have been broadly used on the Stock Exchange to describe an optimist or a pessimist in share-dealing.

Read this - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Market_trends#Bull_market . It usually means a high, fast run-up in the stock price. Bulls attack from 'down' to 'up' and are herd animals, while bears claw from 'top' to 'bottom'. Bull, therefore means fast-growing/rising, with everyone trying to jump on the bandwagon.

thewhistles
Bull means good. It signifies confidence in the market and a general upward trend. A bear market is the opposite.

The term applies to a strongly rising market and to those who bet on it rising.
