A middleman. He has the connections and know-how. Usually a term used in connection with the stock market but a broker can be used many places; real estate, buying gold & jewels, etc.

raysor
There is an expression "to broke a deal" or to arrange a deal. A broker is someone/something who does this. Like a stockbroker who, before big bang , was the only person allowed to buy shares, on behalf of the public, from the Stockjobbers. I have been told that a stockbroker is a corporation and not a person. A stockbroker was a member firm of the LSE and there were also individual, alas no longer, members.

argentina
middle man.!!
the one who connects between seller and buyer.
someone who helps you to invest your money to get the most profit, so in this case both of you will be satisfied

For stocks and share you can't sell or buy them yourself,

you have to use someone regulated, i.e the broker who is licenced to do this for you, can't deal with out them in this market I'm afraid

Heisenberg
A Broker is someone who takes your money and tries to invest it in ways that make both you and him money. Some people jokingly say that a Broker is the person who makes you broker than you were.

These people have largely been replaced with eTrade and other such online services (when it comes to casual investors).

kj
A broker is a party that mediates between a buyer and a seller.

Lliy
a broker is a party that mediates between a buyer and a seller. A broker also acts as a seller or as a buyer becomes a principal party to the deal. Distinguish agent: one who acts on behalf of a principal.
