Philip H © | What high risk, high gain investment would you make with £20k? |
|
|

how high risk are we talking? there's penny stock type risk, then there's DayTrading type risk.
with £20k, you have about $40k and that's easily enough to allow you to open a US daytrading account; it's fast-paced and also happens to have a high rate of failure, so I'd also suggest you do a spot of homework.
If penny stocks appeal to you, they can be somewhat similar to roulette; if you pick out a good one then you can make quite a sum, though depending on the company's market cap, you may or may not have issues with liquidating. |

my mom would say premium bonds because she's sensible. Me? i invested £13,000 in a relationship i thought was worth it and now i'm paying the price (and the interest) |

With a hypothetical 20k the fastest high risk return would be roulette. Double up with one spin
On a more down to earth note; I'd invest in some firearms ans special forces training and bcome a bank robber!
Or find a friend who's good at high stakes poker and offer them a cut of any profits |

Gold. Easy money. You can make a lot of money right now with gold. I have a friend who just invested about the amount you are questioning. |

Oil. Due to reach $200 a barrell in Dec 2008. But, I'd stick it on a roulette table ... no tax ... no front loaded charges and instant. |

I believe the renewable, alternative energy industry will provide some of the best gains over the next 10 - 20 years. Take into account the issues of climate change, high oil prices, energy security and Governments targets to reduce greenhouse gases, and there is a big potential for profit.
We are seeing this already - Brazil's biofuels industry is booming (due to energy security policy). The German solar market is booming (Germany are aiming for 40% reduction in CO2). Gordon Brown has just announced 7000 wind turbines to be built on U.K soil. And this is just the start. Wait until the fossil fuels start running out, and we will have no choice to switch to more renewable forms of energy generation.
I would also buy shares in banks, there have been hammered by the credit crunch and are cheap by historical standards, plenty of future upside to go in banking stocks I think. |

Shares in bradford and bingley. They have doubled in a week but they could easily double again in no time at all. |
