sue d | What income level do you consider "middle class"? |

In an area such as San Francisco, it is probably someone with an income of about $150K - 200K, given the cost of housing. In Trade TN, it is probably between $25K and 35K. This is so geographically dependent that a firm figure is very difficult to establish.
Just to put things in prespective, the cheapest price I found for real estate in San Francisco was $264,500.00 for a studio. It's like 427 square feet. Putting 20% down and getting the best interest rate available with 0 points would result in a monthly payment of $1316.00. Add in taxes and insurance and you're looking at a monthly payment of $1678.00. Someone making 40K annually is not in the middle class in San Francisco or Washington, DC or New York or most other large cities in the US. |

For a small family, 50K to 250K is middle class. On this income, managed right, you can buy a house, car, vacations and college for your kids.
More than 250K should be considered rich. 250K is more than enough to live a comfortable lifestyle, so the extra money can be invested and will multiply, shorting making the person a millionaire. |

I remember something in a sociology class about one time of social status being money based, and another kind being education based. The crappy thing is that I'm not sure which is which. I remember not agreeing with what I was hearing though. |

I think it depends on where you live, such as city, small town, what part of america? |

If you're surviving, have a home and a car, you're middle class. |

I consider $40,000 - $65,000 middle class. |

aproximately 25,000 - 65,000 I think is middle class.
By 75,000 one is definitely getting into the lower upper class.
