What is a Mortgage adviser? What do they do exactly? what about a financial adviser?
Sound like presumptious titles to me.

they are the same thing really. they can be very helpful but you need to make sure they are independent i.e not working for one company/bank/building society and therefore searching many mortgage providers and mortgage types for the best one. they also get fees from the mortgage company they sign you up with and therefore should not charge you any fees for their services. Ours was good regarding the mortgage and searched many providers finding the best deal at the time and helping us with all the paperwork but he was endorsed by a specific insurance company and signed us up for buildings and contents insurance and life/critical illness cover against the mortgage. after searching other companies about 6 months later we found we had been paying about triple what we could have been so be careful with this.

They are the same thing really, the trick is to find someone independant.
I would recomend the Nationwide building Society

Mortgage advisers help clients to find and apply for a suitable and affordable mortgage. They:

advise clients on the house-buying process
find out about the client's financial circumstances, and discuss the impact of different types of mortgage on their current and future finances
offer information on a number of mortgage products so that the customer can make an informed choice
help the customer complete the mortgage application
make sure that the client is aware of the rules about repayments and mortgage protection
advise on related products such as buildings insurance - some advisers may have to meet sales targets for mortgages and other financial products
liaise with other professionals such as estate agents and valuers, and with mortgage lenders
keep up to date with new mortgage products and any changes in the law.
Mortgage advisers can work for banks or building societies, where they usually only advise on their own company's mortgage products, or for estate agents or mortgage brokers, where they may advise on mortgages from a range of companies. They could also be independent financial advisers (IFAs), who can advise on all types of financial products as well as mortgages (see the Financial Adviser profile for more details).

Most financial advisers want to look at your whole financial picture – all your income and liabilities.

Good luck in your future endevors.

Both are specialist in there own field who are required to take exams and continuous training to prove their competence to the Financial Services Authority, in exactly the same way as any other specialist. If you wanted your house rewired you would presumably not ask a plumber, or a police officer, you would call in a qualified electricain.

Presumptious is a qurious word to use, but pherhaps if they said they were the best adviser in the land you may be right !

A mortgage adviser gives advice on mortgages.
A financial adviser gives advice on other types of investment.

It is important to get someone who is independant (not linked to a product).

They should be giving you the best advice for you. When they recommend something to you, ask them what they are getting from the company they recommend and if this recommendation is going to cost you anything.

They are selling on commission and only the limited number of products in their portfolio. Go straight to a building society. They are always best, especially if the cold wind blows.
