It sounds like you want a good discount broker. There are several out there - just do a search on 'discount broker'. A few that I know about are Scottrade, Ameritrade, Etrade. These sites also offer areas for researching both funds (ie mutual funds) and stocks.

Is it because you think the country is going to see an explosion of children being born? What do you mean catches? You do not wish to purchase them in the open market? Companies offer preferred stock to select people. You should check with them. I think you wish to learn about the financial system and the capital markets. There are nice books out there. And you can start reading yahoo finance.
