That's a pretty open question. I'll give you an historical example. Just before the end of last year I bought 100 shares in Apple inc. Even though the iPhone hype then was high, I thought it would only increase and Apple's brand strength and revenue would continue to increase. So last month, in July I sold all my stock in Apple Inc. for a 40% profit. That is a good investment. By the way, this is just an example, if I had had the balls at the time to follow my instinct and invest in Apple I would not be writing this now, I would be having a good cocktail in the Seychelles! |

If you're looking for stocks to buy and hold for a long time, look for stocks you think will go up in the future. You can base your choices on "fundamental analysis" by reading up on the financial statements of a specific company you're interested in, and you can also take a look at the broader market to try to get a sense of what markets and sectors might be going up in the future. Is Apple a solid company that will make returns on your money? Are metal mining companies going up in the future and if so, would they be good to invest in? These are good things to look into, to get you started. |
