What is a reasonable investment return average?
For a 45-year old person, what is a reasonable average rate of return on highly diversified investments to expect? They range the spectrum from conservative to aggressive, but I have a specific average rate of return of 7.62% over the past three years. I have been told this is good and I have been told this is horrible.

To my mind 7.62% is too low....
I am getting 2% interest every month (APY 24%).

I believe if you do your homework well, any figure below 20% per annum is a waste of time.

Might as well invest in BRKA or BRKB

about 8-12% 4 a medium risk of investment in share market n above 15% from a high risk in mutual funds.u must study it carefully b4 u pump in ur money.take care.

7.62% is ok. The best way to evaluate your returns is to find a a relevant benchmark to compare yourself to. For example, if your portfolio is invested in 40% bonds, 50% domestic stock, and 10% international stock, you might use the Vanguard Moderate Life Strategy fund as your benchmark since it invests in a similar mix. So, try to find a life strategy or target retirement fund that has a mix of investments similar to your portfolio, and use that fund as your benchmark. If you are getting near the same returns as you benchmark, you are doing good.

I don't think 7.62% is very good. I don't have my 3 year average available, but I have my 2006 average from my investments. It was 9.6%. I think the prior years were similar. I was checking my notes from my discussion with my financial planner from this Spring. We concluded that 9.6% wasn't as good as either the benchmarked rate (12%) or last year's Dow rate (16%), and that my funds should be doing better. We talked about some changes we could make to hopefully create an investment profile that was at least as profitable as the Dow rate.

I would think you should be asking questions if your average rate of return is 7.62% over the last 3 years.

I hope this helps.

Its all relative. I would go to Vanguard or T. Rowe Price and look at their "growth", "moderate" and "conservative" asset-allocation funds. Those are useful as benchmarks for comparison to your portfolio.

7.62 is ok. I would shoot for 10% over a period of at least 5 years. Have you tried shopping around for other investment firms?

as per my opinion
if it is in the stock market the expected return must ne 25%
as soon we achieve it
we should live it
and shoul invest the money in other company
