What is a safe investment for a senior citizen in today's stock market ?
I already have some t-bills and CDs for cash flow. I am paying too much income tax for the amount of money I can spend each year.

Instead of stocks, what about tax-exempt municipal bonds?

the stock market isn't safe for a retired person unless you have money to risk. your portfolio should be more in bonds and other very safe investments

Keep the t-bills, and an account (like a small CD or money market), but if you are not living on this money, a Fixed Annuity is ideal for most seniors. High interest rates, Safety, and tax deferral so that it does not affect your monthly social security or tax returns! Most people are not educated in these amazing tools that insurance companies offer. NOT Variable Annuities, they are bad, especially for seniors. If you are single, these Annuities also avoid probate for you heirs, and if you go directly to an agent, not a broker or financial planner, they cost you nothing! They are simple and wonderful tools. No need to annuitize unless you need a monthly income, you can withdraw 10 - 20% every year depending on your needs.

I don't think there is such a thing as a safe investment in the stock market, regardless of your age. It looks like gold is about the safest bet because no matter how much it goes down one day it usually goes up in the next few days. Gold doesn't get bought out by another company either.

Campell's Soup.
Soup is cheap and easy to make, so more people are buying it because they cannot afford fancier meals. Also, winter is coming up, so people will want warm soup.
