Before the internet, stock was bought through an agent, and that agent bought stock for you at wallstreet or wherever. Online trading takes out the middle man, there are less commissions. You still have to pay for trades, which is technically a commision, if you didn't, the online trading sites couldn't afford to stay in business. |

online trading is the latest ways to buy or sell stocks. Before companies like Etrade, Ameritrade existed, you would have to have an account with the big brokerage house like Smith Barney. If you wanted to buy a share of some company, you would have to call them and tell to buy it on your behalf. They also charge an arm and a leg for it. Online trading changed all that. Now, all we have to do is login to Etrade and buy it on our own for a lot less commission.
