What is the best investment to make these days?

D
The answer is 100% dependent on your time horizon, objectives (e.g. investing for retirement, growth, income, etc.) tax situation and risk tolerance. Basically the state of your personal finances and what you want to invest for. "Making money" is NOT a complete answer :)

If you are new to investing I would suggest no-load, low expense ratio, index mutual funds (Vanguard has some good ones). If you want to invest for earlier retirement do all of your investing in a retirement account (e.g. IRA, ROTH IRA, etc.). I suggest being a long-term (> 10 years) position holder.

In the short term (days to months) individual stocks make as much sense as reading a book backwards, in the dark and through a kaleidoscope. Get some books on investing with stocks, bonds and mutual funds and also check out some websites like:
fundadvice.com
investopedia.com (they have a stock simulator you can play with)
fool.com

It may sound corny but invest in yourself FIRST, meaning your time and knowledge before investing money. My $0.02

there are investments that can pay you over 10% per month using a good forex manager, if you compound your money over time you can make some crazy money, if you compound @ 12% per month for 1 year that is over 388% per year.
If you are interested contact me at rohan_mowatt@yahoo.com and I can direct you.

Invest in ETF:

Exchange traded funds, or ETFs are mixed investment tools that use the trading flexibility of individual stocks along with the diversification advantages of mutual funds. ETFs have features that make them attractive to investors looking for a cheaper method to enjoy wide exposure to certain sectors of the businesses. They are similar to mutual funds but are better due to various reasons.

ETFs are cheaper than mutual funds. ETFs have very low annual expenses, nearly 20 basis points or 0.2% less. As against this, actively managed mutual funds show average expenses exceeding 135 basis points (1.35%). This does not include the extra 2% - 5% as loads, 12(b)-1 marketing fees, transactions costs, and soft dollar expenses mutual funds, passed on to you but never informed, except in very fine print that nobody cares to read.

If you're are going to let it sit for at least five years while continuing to put money in on a monthly basis I suggest Mutual funds. I have two funds and if I take what i've invested over the last five away from what i've earned it's only 27% of the money that's there. Go with a select fund I'm not telling you my other one.

Also pick up a book called mutual funds for dummies. It's great.
