A heart surgeon makes awfully good money, but it takes 4 yr. college, 4 yrs. med school (all of which you pay for) and 6+ years of internship, residency, and fellowship (all of which pays crappy wages and has very long hours.) However, by the time you are 40, you're doing pretty well.
People who go to top schools (not State U) and get MBAs and J.D.s tend to do quite well in the money department. (Some Public Schools like Berkeley and the University of Virginia have top-notch programs, but don't assume that the college down the street's MBA is going to bring in the big bucks).
If you want to just get a B.A., breaking into investment banking is a good gig, money wise, but I've heard the hours are terrible.
And, if college isn't your thing, having a practical skill like plumbing or electrician can net you in the high-5 or low-6 figures if you work independent. |
