I dont think there are many good stocks to own indefinately. I suppose UnitedHealth (UNH) is a good stock to hold for quite a while. It's non-cyclical because people always need healthcare. So it wont be influenced by any market crashes. So yea check into UNH |

Best to diversify a little just in case a certain stock has an unforeseen disaster. Best prospects for buy and hold for a considerable amount of time are good growth prospects moving forward: VMW - EMC just spun off and expected to be tremendous, BIDU - GOOG of Asia, LULU - UA for women, GLD(Gold) & RIO(CVRD) both thrive on low rates/weak $, POT - agriculture boom NILE - revolutionize selling diamonds ...... happy investing ...... if someone comes up with a more profitable diversified group I'd like to know it |

Altria (MO) They sell cigarettes. They pay a decent dividends (4%) and some next year the will spin their international division.
If you are not into that find a stock that has good fundmentals, easy to understand, pays good dividends and the business isn't to complex. |
