Throw it in the stock market. Look for some stocks that pay dividends and hope for the best. In addition to paying a dividend they have the chance of increasing in value.

Some large cap dividend stocks are Bank of America (BAC $53.76), is currently paying $2.06 dividend payout per share, Altria Group (MO $81.16), pays 3.26 dividend payout per share.

Looking for a higher payout but risky try Southern Copper (PCU $50.92), pays 4.60 dividend payout per share, Centerplate (CVP $15.71), pays 1.56 per share dividend payout.

These are just a few examples. What ever you choose read up on which companies you'll want to invest in. Always remember, past performance does not guarantee future results.

I am not sure if this works on a 3-5 year time frame, so you need to do some homework on my suggestions which I feel are quite conservative....1) zero coupon bonds/strip bonds, 2) REITs on fast-growing real estate segments e.g. malls, 3) Gold and gold funds. You could also consider Index Funds.

Find out about the level of risk you want to take. As we all should not risk = reward. You can try to find some high risk investment funds which pays high dividends. Bonds, stocks or any other investing veciles depending on your strategy and risk level.

Leverage and hedge your money in the forex stock market. Gain interest daily at way better than market rates. And watch your money grow over time. Right now to give you an idea. If you invested a certain percentage of that 20k in the forex market using 30% of your money and trade on a leverage of 100 to buying two currencies that hedge you would make in interest 16.00 dollars a day. Figure out what rate of return that would be for a year. And that is the tip of the iceberg. You could leverage 400 to 1 only using 10% of your portfolio and make 22.00 a day. I was making 15.00 a month on cd with as big as the risk you would have. Until I found this website and now I make that in a day. And there is so much more. It shows you how to hedge your trade so it minimizes the risk. It is easy to do and you can watch your money grow. The company is freedom rocks the website is www.freedomrocks.com/blake or www.freedominforex.com

If you think cd's are low and you want to earn more money in 3-5 years, what about a return of 300% in 15 months? It is hard to believe, but some investors are making that amount of money out there (me included of course, hee...hee...). Actually investing is just like gambling, you gamble small - you win small and you gamble big - you win big. The higher the risk the bigger the return, but a good investor must be very calculative and not only rely on luck. Mathematically the 20K can be manipulated to churn out millions of dollars for the owner within a short period of time. Investors to be and infact anybody who wants to make money should think about this phrase, "money working for money".

You could invest in silver. It already has inherent value as a precious metal and will almost definitely increase in value in a couple years.
