i like scottrade but look around im sure you can find other low commission trading sites such as e-trade and ameritrade.

It really depends on how much you are willing to invest

I just recently started investing. After much digging I found that http://www.sharebuilder.com had the lowest commissions if you only invest on tuesdays. how it works is you pick your stocks indexes etf´s and such through the week, telling it how much of what to invest in, then when tuesday hits, it buys them up.

I started with as little as 50 a week, but you can move up and down on that. You can also do real time trades but those are expensive. if you want a free account with once a week investment, sharebuilder is nice. If you want to control your trades, www.scottrade.com has a $7 commission.

Of course, take all this with a grain of salt, I just started a few months ago myself. (And have made only about 300 bucks, but its 300 i didnt have before!)

First off open up a savings account at http://www.ingdirect.com ... put at least 6 months worth of gross pay into it and treat that as an emergency fund only touching it when you really need it...

Once that is done then you can start a portfolio...

You can go too http://sharebuilder.com and open up an account there too buy stocks, funds, or etf's ....there is no minimum and you get a $25.00

or

You can go too your local broker
and open up a Roth IRA

Remember too start early and and too keep your investments up don't miss any if you can help it.
