Lfeata | What is the easiest way to buy stock? |
im 18 and i want to buy GM stock as soon as i can, hopefully within the next day or so. ive never owned stock before, and i have no idea how to go about it. so what is the easiest most efficient and cheapest way to buy stock? Additional Details i realize the stick market is down... gm shares are around 5-6 bucks. its a usually steady company and the shares are usually areound 40 dollars. assuming they dont go bankrupt their stock should make a big turn around when the economy gets going again, plus they just 6 billion from the govt to help out their future. theres a chance i know what im talking about. maybe i wont buy too soon, but i want to buy when its low |

Buying stock in General Motors may not be the best move right now.
After the Economy gets back up onto it feet, There will be a higher demand for other types of energy to run cars, such as Electricity... Unfortunately the Head adviser thinks otherwise of Global Warming, and is more focused on making cars that run primarily on Oil.
The value of the stock in that company is going to decrease in the future. |

Set up an account with Ameritrade or Etrade. I use both of them for different purposes. It takes more than a day, because it takes a few days just to fund the account. But you don't have to worry about GM stock skyrocketing any time soon... |

Tell you what. Given the current conditions on Wall Street, I will give you my name and address and you can send me the money. I will send you funny jokes, pictures, amusing stories and whatnot. At least that way, you will get something back for your money.
Buying stock in GM now is like being the next in line at Dunkin Donuts behind a fat chick. All you will be left with is the crappy stuff. If you want to invest in something, look into managed bond funds or anything stocks that buy up precious metals. |

Probably the easiest way is opening an online trading account there are plenty of them available.
https://www.fidelity.com/
http://www.tdameritrade.com/
https://us.etrade.com/
Just pick any of those and open an account there, you should need a check or other means to fund your account. You can also go to your usual bank and do the investments with them, they generally have bigger fees than the online companies.
Trading stocks is not hard but you should do it with caution. I'll recommend you to first read and instruct your self on stock and bond trading.
A good site for that is http://www.investopedia.com/
Remember that market turnovers are long, and the past value of a share not necessary represents future value. Look at Enron, MCI, and other companies. Also remember that if a company files bankruptcy your stocks will worth $0.
Anyway with the depressed market of today if you are looking into a long term investment (5 to 10 years) you will be good buying some mutual funds. But first read, investigate and get advice.. |
