What is the smallest amount of money worth investing without wasting my time?

Everyone has to start somewhere. I started with $250, but that was a long time ago when a dollar was worth considerably more than it is today. The thing is to get started. There are mutual funds that allow you to begin with $500, not many but some. American Funds is one. That fund family then allows you to add to your holdings at about $25 increments. There are also on line brokers that will allow you to begin with a small initial deposit. I believe Scottrade is one. Index funds and closed end fund sell like stocks and you can buy just a few hundred dollars worth.
With a small amount to begin with, it would be somewhat risky to invest in other than a mutual fund; but that should be your decision.

It's never a waste of time to invest in your future.

I started at $25/month in an IRA because that's all I could afford at that time. If you're buying stocks and have to pay a fee, you'd probably want to invest at least $500 to minimixe the pain of the fee.

You can always save in a savings account until you build up more money and then invest it in mutual funds or stocks at one go.

Vanguard has some good low-cost funds.

It depends on what you are thinking of, business, investing in something to bring you additional income like Certificates of Deposit? It is not clear what you are looking for. If it is business, I may be able to help you start your own business on a shoestring where you can develop a residual income to last a lifetime, this is not a waste of time and is actually helping others.
The company I work with has been in business for over 20 years and is very solid and stable, most of all it lets me work from anywhere, home, vacations, etc. I love being independent. Let me know what you are wanting to invest in. Property investments are pretty good, depending upon the demand in the area you are seeking to invest. Where I live there is a lot of open range property that has been here for ages (I live in the mountains) and is relatively low-cost but the property value is consistantly rising. Love to talk with you.

Good Luck & Be Well!!!

$10,000 even in a high yield is severly on the brink of being a waste of time. Personally, I would say $50,000 minimum.

20 USD monthly in a savings account.

1000 USD or more initially plus regular monthly payments (whatever you can afford) in a proper investment account.
Investment accounts usually have a minimum opening deposit, and fees per trade make small investments overly expensive.

If you live in the US, take out an IRA account, that is tax free (if yoy want an investment account)

Investing has a big learning curve. Best to start small and as you have more to invest you also have more and more experience to invest more wisely and a better tolerance for the ups and downs.

I think you can get in with as little as a couple hundred bucks.

Actually, people can start investing with as little as $500. Even less is possible, but you start to run into problems when the trading fees (as low as $10 at some websites) start taking a large chunk of your pricipal.

Consider investing your $500 in an index fund - no initial trading fee, low maintenance fees, and be sure to set the account to reinvest the dividends. Many investment account sites, such as etrade.com allows you to add a small amount each month (say $100), and will automatically purchase shares of the index fund, so that your position grows over time. May people make the mistake thinking only a large investment initially is worth it, but the key is time. The earlier you place money to invest, the better your returns will be on average. With a stock market historical return of 10% annually, you would be surprised how a small amount invested can grow over time.
