Like most answers in finance the answer is, "it depends." If you plan on using it for something in the near future like a house or a car you may want to invest it in a money market account. The return is about 5% and there is very little risk.

If you are looking to hold it for a longer period then a highly rated equity or balanced mutual fund may be a better way to go.

If your future is pretty well secure and you can afford to lose the money you may want to leverage it in some sort of partnership, perhaps a new business or real estate. And if you have a real high risk tolerance, go to Vegas and put it all on the hard eight!

No one can predict the future, protect your money by investing in LOW RISK investments, such as real estate (unless yer on west coast or east coast). Dont let the lure of possible big returns get you to make a risky choice...if you do, go in prepared to lose it all, if anyone could do it, it would be well known, good luck!...

Also put the 20k down on your mortgage. PAY OFF YOUR DEBTS FIRST!!!!! Then you'll have money to invest.

Research the "couch potato" investment scheme.

Its basically 75% in an S&P 500 mutual fund and 25% in a bond index fund and let it sit there forever. Over the long run you will likely average 10% returns per year.

real estate, i would say. dont go for stocks since it may change with the global changes in market

Ok the first thing that would be wise is not tell people you have $20,000! lol I'm serious my friend because there is going to be no shortage of people that will want to help you and ADVISE you with that money.

As the experts say, if you don't need the money now and can invest it long term, then right now real estate or stocks.

Why stocks or re? Both have historically always gone up over long periods of time and real estate for sure is going to go up since it has just adjusted to what we feel is the lowest floor.

Second trust deeds are good and not too much risk if the house has a lot of equity.

If it was me though I would buy and sell stocks as with $20,000 it should be easy to double that in no time.

Stock drops low you buy it. Stock goes back up you sell it and keep doing that.

If you haven't done so, sign up for a free stock buying and selling account below. The other site below is a real estate site.

I would add that if you have debts that cause you to pay interest, pay off your debts.

If you're renting, look into buying a place to live. Using the money to pursue education is another good idea.

Suze Orman writes good books about managing your money. She might give you more ideas to work with.

Put it in a Managed Forex Accounts. Some even offer protected principal by investing 80% of you acct. into a T Bill and trade the difference at 10x leverage. Basically this guarantees that at worst, you will be even after 5 years. That's assuming that you had 0% return on your acct. The acct. that I invested in averaged over 40 % annually and I would certainly recommend it to other investors.

The best and safest way is to invest in a cd that offers high returns, I know several banks in the Philippines that offers 20% interest per annum net of tax, interest payable monthly and is covered by 12 post dated checks yearly. It is totally secured by PDIC. The banks (12 banks and growing) are a member of a group of companies that has interest in lending, credit cards, motorcycle assembling, pension and education plans marketing, newspapers and mutual funds You can email me for more information
