Unless you have tons of money, you'd be better off investing in mutual funds. Vanguard funds have lower fees than others, so that means more money in your pocket.
I would invest in a fund for medium sized growth companies. If you have a longer horizon, you may want to consider a REIT fund. |

Given the current and projected economies, your best bet is to stay out of dollar-denominated investments altogether. Get yourself out of debt. Stock up on food and necessities to provide for yourself in case you lose your job. |

Ah the infamous question where everyone asks but no one can find the best answer. Some believe that the entire market will turn upwards with Obama as our president, so according to these believers, any stock will be a good stock. My advice to you is to look for those companies who are fundamentally strong, have manageable debt and competent management. Personally I feel that the shipping industry is a great place to be only because of a recent tumble in the Baltic Dry Index. The best of sector I feel is Diana Shipping, which has everything I just mentioned above. And at 12 and change I feel this company is a steal. but don't just take my word on it, go out and around, do some research and talk to other investors as well (which you already started to do by asking the question here!). Also I have a blog that I keep, www.thechartistsview.blogspot.com. On it I post my investment advice and ideas and want readers to make comments, post questions and create a discussion. I personally feel that the more information we share as investors the better we will all become at investing. Feel free to visit, take a look around and leave a comment. Also if you have any other questions concerning investing feel free to send me an e-mail directly and I'll always get back to you as soon as possible.
Good luck with everything! |

I have most of my money in wind energy stocks. I am very excited about these stocks, especially considering that Obama is very positive on wind energy. Here is a link to all of my investments.

Right now the market is very volatile and it is more of a traders market. If this is a long term investment (cash that you don't need for > 5 years) then this would be a good time to invest in a good ETF (exchange traded fund) that invests in a good number of stocks (like an S&P fund, "spy" for example). There are hundreds of well diversified ETF's available so do your research (look for ones that have performed well in the past and invest in the companies you like while costing you the lowest as possible). A well diversified investment right now with the market as low as it is could pay off big in a few years, but you have to be diversified in a market like this where well known and large businesses are failing all around us. This is only cash that you don't need right now or in the near future because in a market like this your investment may lose value before gaining it. I hope this helps. |

I know Obama what's to invest in the environment to create jobs. Something like wind energy.
If your thinking blue chip, find ones that made a profit in 2008 and check their yields. There are 12 companies listed on the Dow Jones Industrial Average that have consistently increased their dividends over the last 5 years(2004-2008). The top 7 yields (1/16/2009) of these 12 are as follows:
1. PFE, 7.31%
2. DD, 6.57%
3. CAT, 3.94%
5. HD, 3.87%
5. BA, 3.77%
6. KO. 3.47%
7. JNJ, 3.13% |
