joedeshon | What one stock would be a good one to invest in? |
This is strictly hypothetical. Suppose I had $10,000 to invest and I could invest it only in one stock. And I had to get out of that stock in the next two or three months. What one stock should it be in?
In other words, what one stock would you reccommend that's a good bet to skyrocket really soon?
Yes, I know it's lousy financial advice to put everything in one stock. That's not the question. This is just hypothetical. One stock. (Extra grins from me if you can explain "why" you chose it.) |

Forget Coke and Microsoft, they aren't small and new enough to grow fast.
Biotech maybe, but I'm not as confident as the poster that this market will take off...in fact, I think it will fall flat.
Hmmm....one stock....well, you likely won't even recognize it and that is the whole point...you want in on the ground floor. If I had to pick a name brand that has decent 2-3 month potential to climb...let's go with Mobile-Exxon. I don't see wind or solar energy taking over in 2 months, but I do see oil trading at higher prices...and we Americans can't help but buy more gasoline for our SUV's. |

If i had 10k i would throw it all in google....look at the stuff they are coming out with. An incredible mobile phone platform. The sidebar in Windows Vista was made as a response to their "Google desktop".
they have moved towards open source. They may not throw Microsoft off the mountain, but their stocks are going to go nutty in the next year...............Invest
I expect a personal email from everyone that loses money and says i am an idiot in this thread |

PGR! Progressive insurance company. The stock is down by about 20% and currently trades around $17. This is a company who constantly innovates and beats its competition and has shown earnings increases in the past 10 years up until this last year ( and thats why the stock is down). They have a Combined loss ratio that is still under 100% which is immaculate for an insurance company. This means they make money in their claims/payouts before even investing the float. Also, insurance companies are often cash cows and as soon as the industry begins to lose any money prices are jacked up (as we all know from our insurance premiums). The industry is in a soft market now, meaning prices are down, but it will regress to mean!
Spoken from a value/contrarian investor! |

I own shares of ATPG Oil and Gas (ATPG). Analysts estimates for FY '08 are for $4.60 a share with the high end of estimates coming in at $7.50 and a projected 5 year growth rate of 53.5%; year over year revenues are estimated to increase about 50%
http://finance.yahoo.com/q/ae?s=ATPG
The company has very very good rigs and key exposure in the deepwater Gulf of Mexico and not too far from the huge find made by the Chevron/Statoil/Devon Energy partnership:

Energy prices remaining near historical highs should provide a decent foundation for the stocks performance. |

I guess this is for a class or contest?
Ask if they're counting paid dividends, or just the share price toward your score?
For a dividend play, I would recommend WWE (World Wrestling Entertainment). It's trading around $14, and paid $0.24 a share each of the last 9 quarters.
For a share-price play, Coke and Pepsi are good ones to try. |

personally i would choose a biotech stock. it's a really hot field right now and with all the research going on and companies getting bids and succeeding, there is a lot of room for growth for them. Last time I did a fake "buy a stock and watch" the one i picked was a small biotech company, it started at $3 a share and 2 months later it was selling for $21 a share. I told my dad to buy it since he's part of investment club but he didn't listen (i was only 14 afterall), oh well his loss!
another thing would be penny stocks, if they succeed, potential for big gains but if they suck you've barely lost money |
