What should I do with $2,000?
I have $2000 and I want to make more money using it. I'm 17 and I have a mutual fund but I'd rather not just put it in that because that's pretty boring and i also think I'll be able to make more money by doing something creative with it instead. If anyone has any specific ideas, it would really help. Thanks!

I want to save it. The point is, Does anyone have any idea as to how i can make more money with it? Don't just tell me no to spend it, I already am past that. I just want to find something that I can do with it that is more profitable than a mutual fund.

A lot of people would suggest you invest in stocks, bonds, mutual funds. I dont think those are good ideas unless you really study the company you plan on buying stock from. Its not as easy as it sounds. you have to know what your looking for or just be lucky. My suggestion is you should put your money in a MONEY MARKET account through a bank or online bank. Find one that offers a rate of 4% or higher interest. I only have about 3 thousand in mine and by the end of there year it accumulated over a few hounder dollars which isn't bad for a 3thousand dollar savings account

ok so you want the best returns with zero effort it sounds like.... then an index (ETF) fund is right for you. It tracks the stock market return as a whole. You put your money in, you get the average return back. If you don't want to take the time to research, and I mean REALLY research companies, this is your best option. Hardly any actively managed mutual funds actually beat the performance of the market over a long period of time. Ask ANY expert and he will tell you the same. Oh and you will get a much better return than the money market offers. The money market is just for people who need the liquidity (i.e. the ability to get your money out and turned into cash quickly and easily). And I don't think you can do much with $2k in real estate, unless you put it into some Real Estate Investment Trust (REIT) but I doubt you will get a better return with one (they are on par with high grade bonds). Well, I hope I have made the decision an easy one for you. And don't take my post the wrong way either - if you are really serious about making the biggest return, you can do it, but it is going to take effort. I just assumed you would rather worry about other things. And remember, there is nothing wrong with a "boring" investment... it just means you can sleep well at night knowing your money is safe.

Save it for college. Put it in a savings account and trust me, you will need it, that way you wont have to call your parents to have them pay for a traffic violation or that credit card you forgot you opened. Maybe you will want to study abroad, that could pay for a month or two study in Costa Rica or Europe. It isn't really enough to invest per say, so put it aside for a trip or an emergency.

Well I would definetly not go out on a shopping spree. Invest it in something, stocks especially are nice. Or just put it in a savings account.
