I partly agree with mixemup. But education doesn't mean accruing debt in college. Get a book titled "Rich Dad, Poor Dad" by Robert Kiyosaki then consider what you would like to invest in. You can check out his column on Yahoo! as well. I believe it's titled "Why the Rich Get Richer," but I'm not sure on that one.

The stockmarket is the place to go to make LOTS, but is quite risky, and very volatile at the moment.... and so stand more chance of LOOSING lots of money instead.
http://www.fool.co.uk/school/2006/sch060130.htm

The first safe option I'd suggest would be a Mini-Cash ISA.... which is a kinda savings account that you don't pay any tax on.
http://www.fool.co.uk/savings/information/cash-isas.aspx
I'd suggest the ones by either Halifax or National Savings if you go for this option
http://www.halifax.co.uk/isas/guidetominicashisa.asp
http://www.nsandi.com/products/isa/index.jsp

The 2nd safe option I'd suggest would be a good old fashioned savings account
http://www.fool.co.uk/savings/compare-savings-accounts.aspx
such as a Halifax Websaver
http://www.halifax.co.uk/savings/onlineaccounts.asp

3rd Safe option would be Premium bonds....... you don't gain interest on them, but do stand a chance of winning money... and don't loose what you put in either.
http://www.nsandi.com/products/pb/index.jsp

The 4th and final safe option is to loan it out at Interest rates you choose via ZOPA - and instantly earn both of us £30

This is where I first learned about it:

There is no safe investment in stocks or shares, your best bet if you dont need to use the money for a while is to look for a high interest paying account, (high interest being not very high), this way there is no risk.

If you have a risky nature you could put half of it away as above and check out any up and coming companies but be prepared to lose it all.

Or buy something you are interested in that you can turn into a small business to make money.

Good luck and for god sake dont gamble it.

Well done for saving too its pretty rare these days

Start by developing good habits with your money. In the mean time, you should educate yourself about the stock market. Educating yourself will give you a huge advantage down the road, especially at your age (Im assuming you're younger). Buy a book or better yet, visit my blog. My blog is dedicated to beginner investors who would like to learn where to start. Click on my profile, next to 'About Me'.

Good luck on your way to riches (hopefully)

The highest returns with the minimum risk you will get from education and qualifications. You should aim for at least a B.S. degree and preferably above.

After that save enough to keep you out of work for 3-6 months, and after that we can talk again. You have to learn to walk before you can run.

solar panel technology -in a few years it will be a huge industry, right now solar panels are very expensive to install on homes/businesses etc, but soon technological advancement will make it more affordable to the average household- get in now and you'll be a millionaire on just that 1000.
