If all that I had was 10k, I probably would not put all of it into the market currently. Maybe 2k and possibly 3k if I found a real good bargain. I would probably put it into a mutual fund perhaps PRWCX. Put the rest in a money market fund for now. |

If I had $10,000 to put in the market, I WOULD put it all in. I don't time my investments so much so I don't want to miss anything good.
Right now, I am looking for industry leaders, history of a great dividend, history of great earnings, and whose stock price has declined a lot.
I like BAC and WFC.I bought in at $40.95 and it went up but luckily it came down below $41 again. I am putting in $2000 more into this industry leader that pays 6.20% dividends. There was an article that pointed out that the last 2 bank problem periods, the price went up 50% within 2 years. I like that.
HANS expanded to Canada for the first time, has great cash flows, makes Monster energy drink, sells for $42 a share and is rumored to be bought out by KO in the $80-$100 range sometime this year. Even if that doesn't happen, you still have a great company. |

First let's define our terms. Are you investing or speculating.
Speculating is like gambling. You pick a stock and roll the dice. Investing is taking your money and allocating it among several investments to reduce risk while maintaining a healthy return.
If you want to "Invest", I recommend checking out the Vanguard STAR mutual fund. It's low cost and spreads the money around among many good company stocks and bonds.
If you want to gamble, I recommend picking a stock that is had some bad news lately, but that you believe will turn around in a year or two. I've done this several times and made good money, but also got burned once when the stock just kept going down. |
