What stocks should I invest in with $100K?
Hello. I have an economics project where we are able to $100,000 into as many stocks in the NYSE as we want. The competition starts tomorrow and ends mid-january. What stocks can I invest in to make the most profit? Any tips?

Look at companies that are exporting raw materials like steel to China. Oil companies are probably going to do pretty well, too, given the recent rise in oil prices.

Good luck with your project.

I remember projects like this but investing for a few months is more of gambling rather than investing. What I would do is go to finance.yahoo and look at the biggest losers of the day. Then I would look at EPS. If it is positive, then consider buying it. Often times, not always, if a stock has a huge decline but they are making money, there might be a nice bounce back. When the bounce happens, sell the stock.

Of course though, this is not how to invest but you have a month window to gamble and go all out. I used to do this style of picking stocks and I was right 6 times in a row and I was up $1000. Then on the 7th time I was finally wrong and I eneded up overall down $500.

Good luck

$20 k in each of the following:

ME (Mariner Energy)
VLO (Valero Energy)
WB (Wachovia Bancorp)
SOV (Soverign Bancorp)
RIG (Transocean Offshore)

Mariner Energy remains my top pick with oil near $100 a barrell, they have key exposure in the deepwater Gulf of Mexico and low debt compared to their peers.

Wachovia Bancorp: CEO recently purchased 100,000 shares, volume has been sharply higher since the announcement, was beaten down to 52 week lows, trading around 40, still off the 52 week high of $59 per share.

Good luck!

well big lots is good although its dropped a little this week, target is a very stable stock, as well as home depot which normally drops in the winter and gains in the summer.
you will also want to have some high risk stock so you might think of putting 10,000 in delta its cheap and has a huge potential of gaining.
what you really want to do is think of what you really like in real life and invest in it seeing how you do, for some it might be movies, sports, restaurants and stores.

NO ONE is going to manage your money better than you will - or should.

so you can actively trade and manage your own money; with $100K, you should learn how to properly trade.

I WILL tell you this: the market is CONSTANTLY changing. What one person gives you as "a tip" today, could be tomorrow's "dog" [not a market term], causing a person or family to go broke - or worse.

Thanks for asking your Q! I enjoyed answering it!
