I always tell my clients that there is no "best" investment. What is good is to diversify your investment portfolio.
It is like putting together a football team. You select players who are known for their defense, and offense.
Your defensive lineup are experts in the field of fixed income investments--treasury bills, bank CDs, even rental income from real estate. Their job is capital preservation. They should be acquainted with medium to long term direction of interest rates.
Your offensive lineup should consist of experts in the field of trading financial markets--stocks, foreign exchange, commodities. Their focus is capital growth.
You are their coach. Your job then is to monitor their performance on a quarterly basis. Are they performing up to your expectations? Are they helping you achieve your financial goals.
Allocate 50% of your total portfolio to both defense and offense. If you are new to investing, go for 80/20.
You can't just invest in fixed income investments. With price of oil going up 48.9% on average every year, you want to have both capital preservation, AND growth on your portfolio.
