Everyday objects from the past are fetching huge amounts of money. What do you think the folks of the future will value from today?

Kind of a 2 sided coin. Historically, items that were significant to the period and helped to define an era and that were made by a top designer of the time. Like a Tiffany lamp from the Arts & Crafts period or a Rene Lalique vase. These items were expensive in their time, but are extraordinarily expensive today. $100,000 for a lamp or $50k for a vase!
The other side of the coin are cheap, disposable items or common household goods that nobody thought to preserve, like an old toy in the original box, or a 1st edition of Tom Sawyer. I do not believe that anything that is mass produced as a collectible will appreciate, Pokemon, Pogs, Cabbage Patch dolls, there are too many of those items in the marketplace already to ever go up in value. Start a collection of things nobody else is saving, expired credit cards, old cell phones and computer peripherals (in their original boxes!) How many people have an old cell phone in it's original box today? Digital cameras in their original boxes with all their paperwork will eventually be worth money. An old digital camera or video camera from the early 90's is already a dinosaur, in the original box? In 10 years maybe you will get what you paid for it, in 50 years? who knows. The way in which our paper money is changing so rapidly, I would start to collect Pristine old bills from the 80's for face value. Your Grandkids will love to get them. Think outside the box and buy things that are contemporary to todays lifestyle and reflects it in the package, buy things meant to be thrown away and keep all the original packaging. Priceless? I doubt that, but have fun.

Probably original artwork, and anything that doesn't say "made in china" on it.

Hit all the garage sales for " lava lamps" !!!
( Even if no one ever wants them, you'll have one snazzy collection)

Any objects which represents today's design trend. It's better if it's designed by a famous designer or produced by a well-known brand.

If you want to go for a cheaper route, special issue stamps would become valuable in future.
