What three stocks should I invest in?
I have about $10,000 in play money. Which three stocks should I invest it? Looking for something that will make money short-term. Thanks!

This is Play money, right? I hope no real money associated with it.

What about FNSR (Finisar), speculative company.

AMX (America Movil)

SNDA (Shanda Interactive) -- Chinese Online Gaming Company.

FCX (Freeport McMoran) -- Gold and Copper Company.

ESV (Ensco) -- Oil Driller.

LVLT (Level 3 communications) -- speculative optical networking play.

First, you should not play the stock market short term. Its easy to pick long term winners but short term is mostly gambling. If God forbid there was another terrorist attack or something, you would lose a lot of money.
Second, you should pick 5 stocks to make sure you are diversified.

I like Walmart (WMT), Motorola (MOT), Pfizer (PFE), Primewest (PWI). I'm looking for my fifth right now.

Any one of three " refiners"...WNR...FTO...ALJ..until you see "usage" starting to fade.( late summer?)
SNCR...a little company that makes money on the Apple i-phone.
TRA or TNH..two divisions of one company making oodles on nitrogen fertilizers..( everybody wants more corn..for ethanol....it may not be the answer but there are tax breaks involved, so it's a big play)
You only have $ 10,000. ? Go to : http://top10traders.com/ and get $ 100,000.

I was going to tell you monopoly but you should invest in a company that you feel good about and you have some knowledge. It is ok to ask for companies but never invest bases on what someone tells you without first checking out the company first. You don't get rich quick.

Over the long haul, "stock pickers" do no better than chance compared to the market overall. If this is "play money" that you just enjoy gambling with, go right ahead!

However, if you are looking to make lots of money in the long term, pick some good complimentary index funds, invest on a schedule to benefit from dollar-cost averaging, and don't panic during the down periods. This strategy gives you a very high chance that you will exceed the market as a whole. Even if you only match the market long-term, you may yield 11% returns.

I recommend you read The Informed Investor: A Hype-Free Guide to Constructing a Sound Financial Portfolio by Frank Armstong III. Stock picking is like gambling -- you may score big, but if you keep playing the house eventually wins.

Watch "Mad Money" on CNBC. Jim Cramer gives good stock picks every day.
