There is no fixed date when every Company pays out dividends. For example, Worthington Nicholls Group went ex-dividend on 28th February 2007 and paid out on 30th March 2007. Lupus Capital, on the other hand, went ex-d on 3rd October 2007 and paid on 8th November 2007. If you are after a consistent income stream, then you might consider a Collective Investment like Invesco Perpetual's Monthly Income Plus, which does what it says on the tin.

Companies that pay a regular divend do so usually on a scheduled basis as in quarterly, some monthly. some companies don't pay dividends at all, other irregullarly, it is really up to the company.
Unless they pay a regular dividend and that is what you are looking for; I would just assume not receive one.
You have to include the dividend on your taxes similiar to Interest and pay taxes at your current tax rate on it. Where if the company uses that money to further invest it will in the end show in the stock price which yes you will pay Capital Gains taxes on, but not untill you sell the stock, so if held means you defered those taxes, and as it is now and usually has been Long term Capital gains gets prefered tax treatment. As for irregular dividends, I usuall ask myself Why?
Can't the managment think of a way to invest that money in the Company to add to the longterm value/profits of the company?
Remember that the company has already payed Income taxes at the corporate rate on that money, and now you will get to also. |

There is absolutely no comparison company to company, as to when dividdends are paid.
I have shares in companies reporting now, declaring dividends. Some are going ex.div in a months time and paying a month after that, but others go ex.div in three months time and paying two days later.
It is essential to do your research on a company and check that company`s timetable on dividends ,as each company will have its own policy. |

It depends on the company. Usually twice a year though. If you want to find out the best way is to call the co. and ask. When I had shares with LloydsTSB they paid out twice a year. |

Usually, or at least in my experience its been around December/January. Having said that is is not a legal requirement for a company to pay a dividend on shares held. An example would be a oil or gas exploration company who needed extra money to fund tests of a possible drilling site. Your dividend could be withheld for years and if the tests don't pay off you have in effect lost money. On the other hand if the tests DO pay off and the company drills into a lucrative well/seam your shares will in theory rise in value and offset any losses you've occured with your dividend.
My advice is don't worry about it. You'll either get your divend or you won't. Either way the company should let you know of their intentions either by letter or in their annual accounts or prospectus. |
