Or...invest in my business.....
A small (?) business may be a great idea...but it needs to be type of business that you are interested or passionate about. Running a business typically requires more than an 8 hour day...usually 12-16(?)...depending on the business.
Of course...NEVER put all of your NEST EGG into any one thing...so, perhaps, do some of both. Most small businesses can be started with substantially less, or even become an "investor" in a small business...but know whats going on...most small businesses fail within the first few years due to mismanagement of operations or finances.
Both ideas have great advantages...and risks. Do believe anyone that replies differently. I work with both..."market" investors like your mutual fund idea...and small business clients that have an established business, and are looking for investors to allow them to expand (in some cases they don't need investors at all...they can fund expansions all on their own merits now!).
Do some looking around. See what kind of business ideas "pop" into your head...or you think would be successful if they did it slightly differently. Then do some research into it...and then "move on it"...or someone else might beat you to it. Mutual funds...timing helps there too...but there are other "market" options that may be better suited for you. Do a "free" meeting with a qualified, knowledgeable, ethical, financial advisor type...and get some ideas of what your options are and what you are comfortable with. It seems to me that you are still uncertain. |

Right now, in my opinion, investing in real estate - especially the massive wave or foreclosed real estate that will be available over the next 36 months, would be the best thing anyone could do.
oh - what I could do with $210,000 in cash! |

Depends on what region of the U.S. you're living in. In big cities, go for the small business because there will be more people & therefore more customers. It's likely that you will be able to break even within a couple months and start making profits.
If it's a smaller town, then opening a small business leads to increased risk & I would recommend the mutual fund instead. |

Become a "private lender" for real estate investors...you should be able to earn 12-15% secured by real estate (what security does the stock market give you?)
Email me if you want more info, I'd be glad to help. benebuck8@yahoo.com |

Easy, INVEST!! I cannot urge you enough to invest. Multiply your money first. Then, when you feel like you are at a comfortable place then consider opening a small business. This way, if your business fails, you may still have some money left over. Besides, owning your own business is very expensive and is quite a gamble. Typically, a business doesn't begin to actually see a profit for atleast a couple of years. Good Luck. |
