I strongly suggest you go to a financial advisor with a solid reputation. I can recommend one in Ohio that is excellent if you are interested. E-mail me. This guy is brilliant. Takes care of my parents' investments and mine and has made us a lot of money. And you can trust him. i will pass on his office phone number in an email. |

CD'S are your safest bet, stairstep them, $10k in 5 yr,$10k in a 4 yr and so on and just keep rotating them, set it up to where you can get into your 1 yr. in case o emergency though !!! |

Bonds, CDS, Money Markets, Housing is pretty safe in certain areas. Just stay away from mutual funds and brokers who would probably want to take it from you. If you haven't done so invest in a roth IRA and dole it out the next couple of years if you aren't already maxing that out. |

Secure & best meaningless terms. if can accept no risk stuck with cds & I do mean stuck. No need for professional advice there. Your $50k will shrink in purchasing power after taxes & inflation at a rapid rate. Not safe or secure. Have to realize money must truly grow in purchasing power for you to succeed. Etfs, Closed end funds, Index mutual funds. If willing to be reasonable & invest the options are many. Don't ask for professional advice & then be unwilling to take any risk under the sad excuse of being "secure". |

Well you have some professional ideas here but it all boils down to what your comfort level with risk is. You should spead it outas much as possible because if one venture fails one could succeed and pick up the slack. But some ideas you could pursue are angel investing in which you could invest in businesses and make a 10, 15, 20% return on any monies invested, you could also invest in mutual fund houses, penny stocks, bonds, currency, precious metals, Real Estate, CD's, technology, etc. The amount of things you can invest in are limited to your imagination and the level of risk you are willing to endure. Also you might indeed want to consult a CPA and financial adviser to see how this will effect you tax wise and how to spread you investment to short and long term endevours. Good luck & Godspeed |

Secure? how secure.
What about your investing time frame.
If you want no risk to your principle with a decent rate of return than perhaps T bills, Gov. Bonds, Money market account, CD's, is the instrument you want.
If you have a 3-5 year time frame and don't mind a little interest risk, than a Bond fund might be up your alley.
If this is money you wont need for 10 or 20 years and want a better risk/reward situation, than an Index fund might be what you seek.
The longer the time frame and the greater your tolerance for risk are the issue here. There is no one size fits all answer.
Why not go to Vanguard.com or cnbc.com or any of the many investment oriented web sites to get some ideas. |
