What will happen to the economy in 2009?
In your opinion.

Creditors are less willing to lend money to consumers and businesses alike. Along with that, consumers and business are less willing to spend money on new items and services in the first place. The people that are actually willing to spend money will have a tougher time finding credit. Less consumer spending, more saving, less investment, lower production, and increased unemployment.

Anything the incoming administration does to stabilize the economy will not work instantaneously. It will take time.

Unemployment will increase to 8 or 9%. Dow will fluctuate from $8K to $10K, many stocks will continue to have low P/E ratios and be good long term buys. Fed Government spending will increase in 2nd half of year as "shovel ready" projects are approved and staffed. Financial institutions will stabilize employment levels by end of 2009. Healthcare and other essential industries will remin less affected.
