Avoid residential property related investments. Do you need access to 100% in 6 weeks or say £30 000. Take a view on the future and act accordingly. Personally I think the dollar is going to crash soon and cause turmoil in the global economy. Gold will then come into it's own. Gold is now in technical pattern which indicates it is likely to move rapidly when it breaks out of this pattern. This could either be up or down. Gold is still way below it historical trend price and so if it did go down I would regard this as buying opportunity. As someone else suggested buy ETF exchange traded funds. Don't be tempted by mining shares there are a lot of peculiarities when it comes to valuing gold mines e.g. are they hedged
I would go for a high interest a/c at your high st bank or consider inflation linked government securities. I don't live in UK so bit out of touch but I believe that you can receive interest tax free. i don't know about the liquidity aspects though. It is quite possible that prices will decline if the world goes into recession so maybe inflation linked not so great who knows. Cash is king in a recession so don't worry about not getting a great yield now. Keep your money liquid and bargains will be had later on.
Summary decide how much you need access to put that in bank a/c the rest split between gold and sitting in a liquid a/c waiting for opportunities to present themselves. Start reading investment magazines. 'The economist' magazine will keep you informed of world events. There are numerous investment titles in the UK get down to a newsagents and start perusing. Lastly I know how you can get 25% return in South Africa paying in Jan 08. I can send details if you're interested. I wouldn't go more than 5-10K as you're gambling on the currency to a large extent. Hope this helps

Guaranteed certificates if needed on a specific date.
If not, 10% in gold ETF, 10% in Silver ETF, 10% in Crude Oil ETF, 20% in World Market Index ETF, and the other half in short term guranteed govt securities.

This contains a balance of volatility protection, yield, inflation/deflation protection, and redeemability. The negatives of this, is that more commmisions are involved, than simply buying straight up guaranteed short term government bills or bonds.

Good Luck

try Blue planet investments the higher risk portfolios can pay up to 75% return in 3 years.

Short notice withdrawal restricts your options of getting the best returns. Maybe splitting between a bank savings account and bonds, such as M&G High Yield Bonds......

The most profitable and safest way to invest 100k would be to buy a couple of houses and rent them out. or you could buy 3 holiday flats in Bulgeria, let the agent rent them for you with a guaranteed monthly income and they will sell them onm in 5yrs time with a nice heafty profit
