Normally, I would say donate some and take care of yourself and family then invest the rest.
I think it would be best to set aside 2 million in a CD and 90% of the interest earn from that will go to any charities of your choice and 10% will go into the next CD.(never ending donation).
another 2 million to take care of your mortgage(pay it off) and other mortgages of your families(depending on how many) you may be able to pay them off, if not help with their monthly payment.
that left with 3 million stuff in CD earning say 5% = $150,000 per year minus 40% tax that would be $90,000 spending money. with this money, you would have a choice to work or not. enjoy the rest of your stay on this earth. |

1-it depend on your age 2-what you really need it for i would set up a trust fund for a worthy cause,or something your interested in. like you i really do not know, but would give something to cancer research. |
