It sounds like you want to quit your job and start a business with the 40k, is that right? Assuming that is, I really admire your "go get it" attitude, but maybe 40k isn't enough to quit your job (unless your pretty sure you could easily get another job or this is just something you have to do). I mean its easy to start a business that doesn't work out and burn through most or all of that 40K.
I'd suggest starting a second job part-time in your free time while still working your current job. Also, don't spend the money until you have to (don't go out renting offices and buying furniture when you have no clients), invest the money safely or just put it in the bank until you really need it.
Also, I'll second what someone else said. Find what you truly love doing and start a business somehow doing that. If you don't love it, it will be hard to do it successfully for years to come.

Pay off your debt and put the rest into a savings account and don't touch it.
Keep your job. The next lump sum that comes your way, use that to invest in something with light to moderate risk and long term gain. |
