Read stock market pages and buy a stock you understand. Best suggestion: look around your house and see what YOU buy (Pepsi? Crest? Gillette?) Then look up those companies and see what the experts think their future holds.
Hint: airline, bank, and auto stocks are very risky right now. |

Invest in yourself in taking the time to seek a professional Financial Advisor. Think about all of the things you have ever done for the first time - and how successful was that compared to professional advice that can be sought in the marketplace?
A financial advisor will ask important questions - mostly, who are you? , and what is this money for? He will talk about important general concepts that have proven successful over the last 80 years. He will look at risk tolerances, time horizons, and then find investments that are best for YOU.
The advice you get from Yahoo! is mostly people that advise on the internet - think armchair quarterback. Do yourself a favor - go talk to a player, someone in the game 40 hours a week, who has spent months or even years studying, getting licensed in, and gaining professional experience. Find someone with the backing of a team of analysts and with a firm that can handle a wide variety of situations that will arise in your account over time. Get in the game - find someone in the field that answers every single day - What's a good first investment? |

For your first investment I would stick with very large companies that are stable!
I would stick with consumer staples..like Proctor and Gamble, Walmart, McDonalds, until you get a better understanding on how the markets work. It is tricky at first but as soon as you have your own money vested in the market you will learn fast because you will actually care on whats going on!!
I would also suggest maybe starting your own mock account from www.investopedia.com that has a wealth of information for a beginner.
1) Start a mock account!!
2) If you dont understand anything go to that site and it will most likely answer your question!!
Good Luck and have some fun!! |

Learning about different investments is the first key.
Until then, park your money in cash account. |

I'd recommend an oil stock because thery're low and you'll have a good experience. Some low priced ones are STO or PBR (no div). They may go a little lower but not much. BEWARE all the rest will. Bad time to experiment. |

Real Estate is the best first investment.
It wouldn't be in the stock market...the DOW is at 7800 and dropping to 7100 before capitulation.
Save your money...or buy gold ingots (not paper). |
