Consider the Vanguard Prime Money Market Fund with a current compound yield of ~4.7% APR. https://flagship.vanguard.com/VGApp/hnw/FundsSnapshot?FundId=0030&FundIntExt=INT

If you are in a high tax bracket you may prefer their tax exempt money market funds: https://flagship.vanguard.com/VGApp/hnw/FundsByType

Sometimes other institutions will have a higher teaser rate, but Vanguard tends to have the highest yields I've found over the long run. (Vanguard money markets are not FDIC insured, however.)

Article on teaser rates:

ING and HSBC often have rates close to Vanguard, and most of their products are FDIC insured. Bankrate.com provides links to CD's with high interest rates. You can check these at the following links:

Try parking it into a short term CD or Money Market Account. Capital One offers a MM account with a 5% APY. May not be worth it for 3 months, but if you keep your money parked there, it will compound interest, and you can access that money at any time, just like a savings account...

Short term investment in Church Bonds is excellent, and almost always a higher interest rate. Church bonds virtually risk-free.

If you live in a big city try investing with a real estate investor.
In Denver there is a group that will let you pool your money with others - to invest in foreclosures. You make a solid 15% and the turn around is between 2-8 wks on your investment. I found the one I like to use at a networking party but most large cities have them in the phone book.
However - go to the office and interview them to make sure they are a solid company - don't just invest with any tom dick or harry.
