There are no legal minimums or maximums. But there are tax implications.

no limit. u can sell the same stock on the same day or hold it till you die (assuming the company still exists when u die)

Well there is a 3 day settlement period. So if you dont have a margin account you can buy a stock, hold it for as long as you want ... 1 min ... 1 year ... 10 years etc. Then sell it. Then that money is tied up for three days, so you cant make another round trip with that same money for three days.
You can buy into another/or the same stock immediately but you cant immediately sell it, you have to wait the three days.
So when you sell a stock with a non margin account its best to just wait the three days before you do anything with the money.

The minimum period is when your Greed comes to an end regarding the profit,
and the maximum period is uptill when you have a sound financial position to hold on.
It all depends upon the individual.

In the internet age, when clicks register online, it may take you only about 5 seconds to buy/sell a stock. There's no stopping you of holding the stock forever.
