Whatever Nitin G stated is very true.

In addition, the liquidity of the scrips are better in NSE and therefore people also tend to trade in NSE for better spreads between bid and ask price.

Both exchanges are equally transparent in dealings now. They are equally efficient, too. Practically I do not find any difference in the trading on both the exchanges. But since NSE was floated as a professional body and the was the first one to have computerised trading, people have started trading more on NSE and the habit continues.

Neverthless, some of the scrips are listed only on BSE. As a result to trade in those scrips you have no option but to trade on BSE.
