Jackie J | When do you think the US economy after the credit crisis will recover and why? |
|

I disagree, I do not think you need to redefine your question because in my opinion the credit crisis especially concerning home loans is in fact a crisis. In fact it is my opinion that the Banks and loaning intuitions who made these variable rate loans almost put us in a rescission. It did not take a rocket scientist to see that loaning people a variable rate loan and who could not afford a fix rate loan, was a recipe for disaster.
Anyway, to answer your question, yes I do think our economy will recover. America is built on capitalism and sold check and balances. I know there will be many that will argue this with me but history has shown that we have always recovered in the past and we will recover again. We recovered from a depression for gosh sakes. We will recover from this. The banks need to make sure they behave themselves and there needs to be laws in place to insure that they do. The why to your question is time. I do not see a more complete recovery till our new President gets into office and major business can see what him/her are going to do.
Edit update: I totally agree with Julie. |

The economy is huge. You can't judge the many by the outcome of the few. Many sectors are doing fine.
You need to re-define your question |

I am an optimist by nature, but unlike the other respondents, I believe the US economy is in trouble. The Financial Sector appears to me like it is bloodletting a little at a time to mask the real seriousness of the problem.
The housing market is still in decline, and that affects many retail companies.
Some analysts say gasoline could reach $4 a gallon by the end of summer. The dollar has been in an unprecedented decline for the past 2 years, and there are layoffs of huge proportions coming from many large companies.
I am not saying the sky is falling, I do not believe that. However, I do believe there are more tough times ahead for the american consumer. It is impossible to tell if it will turn into something tragic. I suspect it will fall somewhere between mild and cataclysmic.
I think we have a ways to go before the US economy is out of the woods. |

The GDP is doing fine, I don't know how the media is saying that the economy is bad.
I only hope that the govt will keep their nose out of the housing problem, society didn't tell these peopl to charge the credit cards above their needs, why should we have to bail them out. This goes for homes as well. |

The U.S. Economy is on the verge of collapse...there are many factors. One huge factor that few recognize is our welfare system and trade defecit. We have so many people that do not have jobs. Give them jobs instead of Chinese crap. We have too many single mothers who cannot keep their legs closed. The best thing that they know is to get pregnant and have it made. They get huge amounts of money for nothing!!!!1 |

The economy is like a 18-wheeler. Even though some of the tired are flat (housing, credit), the other tires carry it along. It takes a lot for the economy to stop or reverse (recession) but when it does, it is hard to get going again, just like a truck. I think that's the best example I can give you. |

For the most part, people still have jobs and make good money. As soon as an article is printed in the news (and such a trusted source they are) about recession and so on, the consumers panick. Watch the numbers, not the news. I would guarentee that if I printed an article stating "The world is ending tomorrow, unless you call me" My phone would be nonstop. The public is fickle and the media is driven by money and manipulated by people with lots of it. |
