When my siblings and I were young, my father purchased AT&T Stock in our names using our soc. sec.numbers.?
My parents later divorced and my father would've had possession of the stocks. We don't know if he ever cashed them in, or if they're sitting in a box in his girlfriends garage in another state. Is there any way to check by soc. sec number if the stocks even still exist and how we'd go about replacing them. My father has since deceased so all knowledge of the whereabouts of these stocks is also gone.

you are gonna need to figure out who the transfer agent for AT&T is cause that who is gonna be able to figure out where they are located and what not
if in your diggin you find and account statements from a brokerage house they could be there in which case you would need to contact the rep on the statements about them

if you of the age of majority (usually 18 but each parent/custodian can choose based on state laws) you can sign for them, otherwise if you haven't you will need a new custodian if a successor custodian was not set up in advance as well as his original death certificate, not a photocopy of it

contact equiserve shareholder services
address: PO Box 43010 Providence, RI
phone: 800-446-2617

they should be able to help you out as well as tell you if they are currently outstanding shares, sold, held in streetname and if so where, etc etc

good luck

Bill
Contact AT&T.

the certificates themselves are not so important , they are more for show

as long as he didnt sell the stock then you still own them....you need to contact AT&T , you should be able to use your soc. sec. no . and your name to find out thru them

American law is probably similar to English law on this. As he bought the shares when you were under age, he could do what he wanted with them.

If he has not sold them, you have now inherited them. Find out who are the registrars for AT&T and ask them your questions. I hope all goes well for you.

First, you do not cash stocks, you sell them.

Second, it they were not sold, AT&T would have continued sending dividend checks by mail. If the mailing address that they have is really his girlfriend's address, you need to look into what happened to the dividend checks.

Start by contacting Computershare, which runs stockholder services for AT&T.

1-800-351-7221

AT&T Inc.
c/o Computershare Trust Company N.A.
P.O. Box 43078
Providence, RI 02940-3078

E-mail: att@computershare.com

Start by updating you address so that any future dividend checks go to you.

Next, if there were truly paper certificates for the shares, and they have been lost, you will need to pay to have them replaced. If they had been lost in the mail, then the cost is 3% or $20, whichever is more.

If there were no paper certificates, just a book entry, then there are no lost certificates, and you can sell without paying for replacement certificates.
