ram pra | When should I decide if my fund is performing badly, will it be after a consistent bad run of one year or more, |
when should I sell it and reshuffle my portfolio or should I kept it even through the bad run of more then 2-3 years. |

It all depends on your methodology of selection. If you used 10, 5, 3, 1, 0.6 and 0.25 year performance to pick your fund, then you should give it a year to see if it can turn around the performance.
If you selected it based on randomness, one article in the magazine/newspaper, then you should make a sell decision, as quickly as you made your buy decision (i.e without much logic).
Finally, learn from this answer, that mutual funds in India are long term vehicles. If you try to get in and out, it will not work well. If you are too short term oriented, then you should be in stocks. If you are too passive, i.e. not checking at least once a year, then you are being too passive.
Enjoy.

Watch the results every quarter for a year and make an assessment. Here is a link which should help you pick the right stock.

It is going to take about 6 months and the worst thing you can do is try to second guess the market by changing all the time , just make sure you are diversified well so that your can limit any possible losses should the market take a bad and lengthy downturn.
Good Luck |

Funds can be as volatile as stocks and on top of the actual holdings is the talent of the manager and the strategy. If this fund has been sour for 2-3 years, you either have had high turnover in managers(hence no one really in charge and no real strategy) or a bad manager with a terrible strategy. The time frame is more than enough to go to a more successful fund.
Free advice, diversify, even if you just meet the minimums, not all funds are the same. Selecting funds- go to morningstar.com, pick 5 star rated funds, but make sure they line up with your investment style(e.g. are you aggressive or risk adverse?). Check your funds' performance against a benchmark like the S&P 500 every month. If they are up 5% and you are up 8% then things are OK. If the reverse is true, track it weekly, it may just be a hiccup or there may be something serious, look to see if Morning Star has changed rating. The point is, as an investor, you always need to review your investments and look for new opportunities as they present themselves. Hope this helps. |

Hello,
There is no simple answer to your question. There are several issues to consider here, including but not limited to your time horizon, risk tolerance, how the mutual fund has performed virus similar mutual funds, your view on the prospects for the sector that the mutual fund is invested in. You should consider addressing most of these issues prior to making a decision.

If you have a fund that performed badly over the last year it is past time to consider it. The markets are up 20%+.
I reconsider my portfolio about every six months. I look for funds with good track records and the manager in place for at least the last five years. I consider the fund strategies and whether I think they represent a segment that will grow.
The question for you is really why has the fund performed badly? Is it focussed on a segment that has not been growing? If so, then will it grow from here? If the segment has been up but your fund not, then maybe the manager is just not so good and its time to move.
I would not have any fund that has been performing below my expectations unless I had a compelling reason. |

Visit
www.mutualfundsindia.com
find comparison of your fund with same catagory funds.
e.g. ITt, FMCG, or equity,balance,
That will give you idea how your fund is performing with resopect to similar funds.
Except for correction period, your anulysed return should be above 30% - my opinion |
