When someone says that dividends are paid each quarter, what is a quarter?
and are these quarters divided the same way as a stock market's financial quarters?

'a quarter' refers to three months (each being a quarter or a fourth of a year). soz, can't help w/the 2nd bit of your question. used to go out w/a stockbroker, and i believe it depends upon exactly which of your holdings are held by whatever company. AFAIK, each regular quarter ends in march, june, sept, dec but some base quarters starting on tax day in april.

yes, v.confusing, i know.

if you can't understand the concept of a financial calendar, there's no way you know enough about the market to be investing in individual securities.

3 months

NAB
The end of every 3 months. Typically March, June, Sept and December.

A quarter is every 4 months based on a Companies Fiscal Year End date. So A company with a December Year End Date the Quarters would be March, June, Sept and Dec.
A company with say May Year End date the Quarters would be Aug, Nov, Feb and May.

The stock markets Quarters are based on the Calender year.

killakatnow
A quarter is 25 cents, which is what you will make in today's market.
