Growing up in a relatively poor family, I never thought that I would be able to get anywhere near $1M, but it turned out I reached about $1M in net worth by 36. I did it through a combination of things - picking an industry to work in that has high pay and working my butt off, not being afraid to everything and anything that was asked of me, and spotting the hard to fill needs that other people weren't really looking (or willing) to fill. That enabled me to move up very quickly in my company and start to earn significant bonuses. I also bought, rehabbed, and sold three houses in the real estate boom, and then got out when the market turned south. Finally, it's not just about money coming it - you've got to control your expenditures. Figure out what you NEED - not what you WANT - and spend wisely. Do you really need to spend $500 a month on a car payment? If you're working 14 hours a day, do you really need to pay $3000 a month in rent? Even the little things add up - Starbucks and a $10 lunch every day gets really expensive. Saving it is just as important as earning it.
There's a really good book about "regular folk" becoming millionaires, called "The Millionaire Next Door." I highly recommend it:

And don't let anyone fool you - it's hard work. Winning the lottery, playing the stock market, get rich quick schemes are too far fetched. If it sounds too good to be true, then it probably is (didn't your mother always tell you that?). |

At the age of 18, I've thought of many ways of becoming very rich in spite of others telling me I won't be rich. I believe hard work will pay off as soon as I find what works for me. I know what I want and I've set goals in getting it. I've set my age of becoming a millionaire at an approximate age of around 34. That's truly not my main goal. My main goal is not becoing worth a million. I want to dominate in the business I choose to pursue, in knowing this I will make far more money then a million. Hopefully thats pennies compared to where I really want to be. |

You hope by 35 how old are you now?You should figure out what creates wealth and focus all your energy in that direction.Going to the mall does not create wealth,financing cars and fancy things does not create wealth.Financing real estate that you lease out creates wealth investing creates wealth spending does not create wealth use coupons in the dollar store and do not worry about what others think of you,do not try to keep up with the jonses since most of them are broke anyway.The baby boomer showoffs are going to reinvent retirement it is called work till you die hahahahah baby boomer showoffs are broke.Creating wealth needs to be your primary and only focus for now,when you are forty with money in the bank the woman will come to you and then you can decide who will be the lucky mother of your kids since you can afford them now.You can do it. |

Yeah, like I need to sell the Volvo and drive the Cavalier, get a grip on trailing stops, do .25% per day on a fortified margin, learn options, discover derrivatives, work a weekend job, take internet and night classes, forget the fancy university, do the local 3rd-4th year school, leave the sugar out of my coffee, quit buying socks and underwear, drink water instead of Snapple, dump my ex-gf, buy hookers instead of dating, sell the spinners, steal flatware from McD's, and watch more Cramer. |
