Where can I buy stock a little at a time ?
I don't have $500 at a time to buy like you would need at some online stock brokers, and I don't want to pay $40 to buy $20 at a time for stocks. Any suggestions ?
Additional Details
.... Also, my company offers Direct Reimbursment...would this be good, and can you explain why ?

If you want to start investing in stocks a little at a time you can invest in DRIP stocks. These involve buying stocks directly from a company. The dividends are then reinvested. You can make an initial purchase of some stocks for as low as $100, and you can make additional purchases of a stock for as low as $25 per month. With some you have to invest agree to more monthly, with others you do not. Most of the the companies that offer DRIP investments are good companies with good track records. You can go to drip.com for information on DRIP stocks. They publish a newsletter and every year a new directory of companies offering dividend reinvestment plans. These are stocks that you would be buying for the long term, definitely not short term investments.
There are some websites - sharebuilder.com comes to mind. I've never used this site, but it might be worth researching.
Some banks and credit unions are also offering services for the small investor. You can invest in folios, using smaller amounts of money.

Generally If the company your interested in is large, then they offer DRIP accounts. Dividend Reinvestment Plans. You buy them directly from the company, without any brokerage fees, and they'll automatically put the dividends you've earned right back into the companies stock. You can add more money at any time, and best part is your allowed to earn parts like .25 of a share. Look it up on Google and see if the companies your interested in offer it.

you are perfect for mutual funds..check out vanguard or fidelity.

nd if you are into stocks, buy into stock mutual funds a little at a time

Most online brokers, like Scottrade, Ameritrade, and stuff like that allow pretty cheap stock trades. Ameritrade, for example, charges $10/trade.

There are a couple of options open to you. As one responder has already mentioned mutual funds are your best option. But there is only one fund that I would recommend that allows starting with less than about $2000. That is American Funds with an initial investment requirement of $250 and subsequent investments of $25. There is one catch. They are front end load fund company. That is they charge you 5.75% to buy their funds. But when you consider the alternatives for small investments that is not too bad actually. Buying one of their mutual funds allows you a diversity of investments. Here is the link

Go to your bank and ask to speak to an investment representative. For the amount of money you have your best bet is to start in mutual funds (buying into a group of stocks at any dollar amount). Most of the accounts you can open with $500 and invest as little as $50 a month.
